Vietnam pushes for expansion of leather and footwear sector

The Vietnamese ministry of industry has submitted a development strategy for the country’s leather and footwear sector, according to a newspaper report. The document sets a target for the industry to produce 640 million pairs of shoes annually by 2010, earning up to $4.7 billion in exports.

The development strategy includes measures to restructure and modernise tanneries and encourage all economic sectors to take part in building leather and footwear establishments in industrial and economic zones.
