Toronto-based Bata Shoe Organisation is considering an investment in the Calcutta Leather Complex (CLC) project at Bantala. The chief minister for West Bengal, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, has asked the company to join the venture, saying he is keen to attract names such as Bata to the project to add prestige.

Chairman of Bata, Thomas J Bata, said on Friday (November 30) that no commitment had been made, but added that Bata India is now doing well in the region and said that the company is now considering the report and proposal from the state government.
