Turkish garment makers association receives government windfall
The Turkish Leather Garment Manufacturers Association (TDKD) in Istanbul has benefited from a government initiative to bolster the country’s brand presence abroad. The association, which represents about 165 leather garment producers in the Zeytinburnu district, has been awarded a $100,000 incentive package from the Turkish Foreign Trade Undersecretariat. The scheme was a means of encouraging producers to promote Turkish brand names either by trade fair participation, opening shops abroad or other promotional and market research campaigns.
The scheme is mainly designed for exporting companies, but the TDKD found that trade associations were also included. Activities that are now planned include exhibitions at various international fair venues, a market research project and the publication of export-related promotional brochures and booklets that aim to boost the sector.
