WRONZ initiates repositioning strategy

22/10/2001

The Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand (WRONZ) is implementing a range of structural changes designed to enable the continued growth of the commercial side of its operations.

Since its incorporation 40 years ago, WRONZ had become increasingly complex in its structure and diverse in its expertise. As a result, the organisation decided to create an internal separation between the historical assets of the Incorporated Society and those of the current operational business. The changes will allow a clearer identification of the resources needed for emerging activities and will facilitate the introduction of outside capital when required. They will also enable the organisation to determine assets that have been created by past grants and other contributions, and to determine their best future use accordingly.

A major part of the Organisation’s activities next year will be the proposed partnership with the New Zealand Wool Board to form Wool Interiors Ltd.

WRONZ will also be focusing on three other principal business streams, with the largest – textiles – encompassing all fibre and textile activities outside of the carpet value chains. The Organisation also hopes to develop greater co-operation between growers in New Zealand, Australia, South America and Britain with a view to developing some more broadly based R&D programmes where growers face common problems such as prickle and lightfastness. Its third main area of activity is based on New Zealand Government science revenues.
