Brazil increases exports to Asia
According to data gathered by AICSUL (Association of the Tanning Industries of the South of Brazil) leather sales to Asia have grown this year.
From January to July, exports to China – the sixth largest buyer of Brazilian leather - grew by 113% in value compared with the year-before period. Exports to Taiwan – the eighth largest importer of Brazilian leather – were up by an even wider margin to 134% while exports to South Korea increased by 63% year-on-year. Though Italy remained the largest single export market for Brazilian leather, accounting for 29% of the total, they were nevertheless down 9% compared with the year-before period.
Overall, Brazilian leather exports climbed 23% in value and by 6% in volume, with an attendant 7% drop in wet-blue exports 12% rise in finished leather products.
