Pakistan’s leather industry expands in 2000-2001

The leather Industry in Pakistan grew by 30% in the financial year from July-June 2001. Finished leather and made-ups (including footwear) exports spiked to $690.151 million from $534.445 million in the 1999-2000 period.

The break down of the figures shows that out of the total export of $690.151 million, Pakistan exported tanned leather worth $ 233.378 million, leather apparel worth $372.489 million, leather gloves worth $37.119 million, leather footwear worth $34.607 million and leather manufacturing worth $12.558 million. This represents an increase in quantity of leather produced to 4.98 million square metres of tanned leather and 2.883 million square metres of leather apparel and footwear
