The leather industry in the UK is being urged to use the opportunity of European Health and Safety Week to improve practices and reduce accidents. Fatal accidents at work in the UK rose by 20% in the last year, and the leather producing industry has contributed to the figure.

The Leather Production Industrial Health and Safety Liaison Committee has written to all the businesses in the UK and regional and national awards will be given with respect to actions taken to prevent accidents during Health and Safety Week.
