Turnover up 35% for Esprit

Esprit Europe AG’s year end results for 2000/2001 show a 35 per cent turnover increase to ¤825.6 million and a doubling of its net income. The company commented that the brand achieved the results against a background of stagnant consumer clothing expenditure both in Germany and Europe. Notable growth was in the relatively small Austrian market, which was up 53 per cent, and in France, which was up 59 per cent. In Germany, where Esprit is an established brand, sales were up 34 per cent.

The key segments for the company during the period were the Women Casual, Women Collection and edc. Growth was also boosted by the newly launched Esprit Sports, and by Bodywear (up 56%) and Shoes (up 57%).
