Brazilian beef to get export boost
The Brazilian leather sector is set to benefit from the "Brazilian Beef Program" – a new government-sponsored initiative aimed at raising the profile of Brazilian beef in export markets.
According to Augusto Sampaio Coelho, the President of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), the increased supply brought about by the programme will not bring about a fall in hide prices. Rather, it will result in better quality and more valuable hides, as it will entail the culling of a higher proportion of younger animals.
Coelho also says he intends to seek greater integration between the Brazilian leather and beef sectors and that he is fully confident that beef industry ability will succeed in expanding its market share abroad: "The Brazilian Beef project is of great importance and this is the right time to seek new markets. We have quality beef obtained from healthy animals and this qualifies the country as a major global beef supplier", he said.
