‘Creativity and Innovation’ was the theme at this year’s Science Fair and Technology Show - the 28th in the series - organised by the Brazilian Leather Technology Centre.

Held on October 1 at the National Industrial Training Service tanning school in Senai, Estancia Velha/RS, the event allowed the school’s students to exhibit their research findings across a broad range of tanning and effluent related themes.

Sponsored this year by the leather processing solutions specialist, MK Quimica do Brasil, the Senai event is widely revered in Brazilian tanning circles as students taking part frequently go on to exhibit their works at international level. A number have also secured the backing of individual shoe manufacturers. In all, twenty papers compiled by a total of seventy students were submitted, with the preferred subject this year being leather tanning.

Technical co-ordinator, Professor Janete Schneider, says that because of the event’s is focus on ‘real life’ production problems, a high proportion of the ideas showcased find their way into actual production processes.
