Leather opportunities highlighted by Ugandan-Tunisian trade agreement

08/10/2001

Leather is one of several Ugandan export commodities that are expected to benefit from a new bilateral trade agreement signed last week with Tunisia.

Aimed at increasing levels of exchange between the two African nations, the agreement is the outcome of discussions between the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCC&I) and the Tunisian Centre for Promotion of Exports. As well as identifying and eliminating barriers to bilateral trade, the agreement is also expected to result in greater levels of investment in Ugandan manufacturing by Tunisian investors.

At the ratification of the agreement in Kampala last week, the 20-strong trade delegation from Tunisia identified leather, tea, coffee, cotton, spices, fruits, fish and tobacco as the Ugandan export commodities most likely to benefit from the accord.
