New Nike production line planned for China
Anticipating China’s expected accession to the World Trades Organisation, Taiwan-based Feng Tay Enterprises Co Ltd said last week that it intends to build an additional Nike athletic footwear production line in China, before the end of the year
To be located at an existing factory in Fujian Province, the new line will bring the total operated by the company in China to 39, with a combined monthly capacity of 1.6 million pairs.
During the first eight months of 2001 alone, Feng Tay sold 18.1 million pairs of sports shoes, 250,000 pairs of skates and 170,000 pairs of leisure shoes. Athletic footwear for the whole of 2001 is expected to top 27 million pairs.
