Tata International reports expansion

Tata International, the trading arm of Tata group that includes leather, engineering, steel and mining operations, has reported an increase in turnover of 20%. For the 2000-01 financial year turnover was Rs2,70 crore, compared with Rs2,193 crore the year before.

Tata is planning to expand its leather activities, which contributed Rs340 crore to turnover in 2000-01. A joint venture has been launched with the Italian packaging group Graziella for manufacturing shoes, and efforts are being made for greater penetration of the domestic market under the brand name Stryde.

The company plans to expand over the next few years with the aim of tripling turnover to hit the $1 billion mark by 2004.
