July jump in Indian leather exports

24/09/2001

The boycott of Indian leather appeared to have little impact on the country’s leather exports during July.

Figures newly released by the Indian government show that exports of leather, fur and leather products were 19.1% up compared with July 2000 – one of the largest increases recorded by any industrial sector.

The picture was far less rosy on the wider economic front, however, as industrial growth dropped to 2.6% from the 5% growth figure recorded in July 2000.
