Nigerian shoe factory to restart production
According to reports from Nigeria, production has started at the Neital tannery and shoe factory, which has been dormant for 15 years. Work to restore the site started in 2000, mainly through the efforts of the Governor of Borno, Mala Kachalla, and his administration.
The tannery has a capacity to process 175,000 skins and hides per year, while the shoe manufacturing unit already has 500 machines installed. Both units could provide employment for up to 3,000 people when running at full capacity. It is hoped that the operation will soon win contracts from the government to supply Nigeria’s armed forces with boots.
