In a reflection of its increasing dominance of the Chinese footwear manufacturing sector, the city of Wenzhou has said it is to set up two new educational institutions – the Chinese Shoe Capital Tech Institute and Wenzhou Fashion Institute.

Set up with the assistance of the Wenzhou Tannery Industry Association and Wenzhou Municipal Fashion Association, the new institutes will be located at the city’s existing Vocational Technology Institute and offer three-year courses in footwear and fashion related technology. 1,500 students are expected to enrol when the college opens next year.
