Rationalisation pays off for Mossop Leather
One positive item of news to emerge from South Africa last week was the recent performance of Mossop Western Leather’s shoe leather tannery.
Having rationalised its product range, the plant is now producing around 250,000 sq. ft. side leather per month, mostly using imported wet blue. It is also turning out 800,000 sq. ft. of splits per month - a high proportion of which are laminated - as well as a less expensive line for the local schools market using foil imported from China.
Located in Wellington, the tannery is reported to be the profit leader within parent group Kolosus Holdings (Pty).
