Moroccan leather exports beat slump

03/09/2001

Increases in leather and clothing exports constituted one of the bright spots from Morocco's recent trade figures. Exports were down 3.4% to Dhr37.92 billion ($3.4 billion) while leather and clothing exports were up 7.6 percent to Dhr14.74 billion.

The rise in imports to Dhr61.88 billion produced a marked increase in the country's trade deficit, up to Dhr23.9 billion for the first six months of 2001.
