Thai leather industry increases presence at Motexha trade fair
This year's Motexha Autumn trade fair will have the largest ever showing from Thailand thanks to the country's buoyant leather industry. There will be 48 companies flying the Thai flag on the government-supported pavilion, most of which will be leather goods enterprises.
The Motexha Autumn show takes place at Dubai World Trade Centre September 25-28. Open to trade visitors only, the focus of the exhibition includes leather products and accessories, textiles, ready-made garments, shoes and handbags.
Thailand has recently invested heavily in the leather goods sector and is one of the world's leaders in the production of quality leather goods. To compete on the global stage the country has focused on branding and design, bringing in top Italian designers to help build on the country’s established leather industry and to update the skills of the work force. The result is a range of high quality fashionable shoes, handbags and small leather goods that is attractive and competitively priced.
Leather exports to the UAE (United Arab Emirates) from Thailand increased by 10% over the past year compared to 2000. The UAE imported $35 million worth of leather products from Thailand during 2000, most of which was destined for the re-export market.
