New fashion website launched
WWD.com, a business-to-business (B2B) fashion website from American trade publication Women's Wear Daily, is expected to launch in September after a four month delay as competition heats up in the sector. The site will provide news and trend predictions for industry professionals.
While the internet might not be delivering quite as many sales to consumers as many had hoped in the fashion sector, B2B websites are managing to charge top rates for providing business information.
One of the best known sites in the field is WSGN, which provides trend predictions and even gives access to store fronts and trade shows online at a cost of $16,000 a year. Although news content will be more of a priority for WWD.com, its trend prediction service will be competing directly with WSGN at a fraction of the cost with subscription at around $895 a year.
In what could be seen as a pre-emptive strike, WSGN is launching its own free email-based news delivery service at the same time as the launch of WWD.com. Meanwhile Fashion Wire Daily, a site that provides fashion news for consumer magazines, is expanding its service with subscriptions at $100 a year.
