Braspelco Frizzo in double celebration

03/09/2001

The Braspelco Group, Brazil's largest leather producer and exporter, has recently inaugurated a new shoe factory at its Frizzo industrial unit in Nova Esperanca do Sul, in the south of the country.  Named Frizzo Calcados, the new factory will operate alongside Braspelco's existing Frizzo Couros tannery at the site.

On the day of the inauguration of the shoe factory, which was attended by the Governor of the State Mr. Olivio Dutra, the company also received its ISO 9001 certification.

The shoe factory produces and exports one million pairs of ladies' leather shoes per year - mainly to the USA and Europe. The tannery is the largest individual leather exporter in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, exporting 1.2 million hides per year.

Both sides of the business have seen good growth over the last twelve months. The turnover for Frizzo Couros in the financial year 2000/2001 was $86.3 million, up from $56.4 million in 1999/2000. Frizzo Calcados had a turnover of $8.7 million in 2000/2001 compared with $7.5 million the year before.
