Brazil takes first steps towards new leather trade university

03/09/2001

A series of new technology courses geared to the shoe and leather sector has been launched in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil. The initiative is the result of an agreement between the CTCCA (Technology Centre for the Leather, Shoe and Allied Trades) and the Federal Centre of Technological Education.

The idea is that the courses will eventually become part of a Brazilian Leather, Shoe and Allied Trades University, which will be located at the CTCCA premises from 2002. Courses are designed for those already working in the leather and shoe trade and will be at the higher education and post-graduate level.

Each complete course will last six semesters or 2,400 hours. There will also be post-graduation courses which will last 500 hours on average and be taught in companies. Martinho Fleck, president of CTCCA, has already set up a team to co-ordinate the project, with collaboration from University Professor Ivar Hartmann and Professor Fernando Kieling.
