German chemicals company BASF has announced a range of new polyurethane binders for finishing leather that are more environmentally friendly. The products are water-based and free of alkyl tin compounds.

The advantages of the polyurethane range are low solvent content, absence of alkyl tin compounds, miscibility with each other and all anionic finishing products, high standards of fastness and applicability to all types of leather.

As with all industries, leather production is increasingly concerned with ecological and toxicological matters. The new range has been developed in response to the needs of the leather industry which must meet the requirements of environmental legislation.
