Charsadda leather institute venture gets go ahead
An agreement has been signed for the construction of a leather institute and leather village to support the local industry in the Charsadda area of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) in Pakistan. A plot of land has been designated and a grant of PRs 15 million ($235,000) has been awarded.
The initiative will eventually provide training for around 200 personnel and would also provide other services for the sector such as help for machinery installation and rental space.
The institute and village represent a joint venture between the Industries Department, Export Promotion Bureau, the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and the Charsadda Chapal (Slippers) Makers Association. The project is expected to be completed some time next year.
