Wollsdorf Leder benefits from quality angle

27/08/2001

Austrian leather producer Wollsdorf Leder has released results for the financial year 2000/2001 showing another sharp rise in turnover. This year the figure was up 21% to ATS 988 million, a slight improvement on last year’s impressive 20% gain.

The company achieved the bulk of its growth through sales to the automotive industry with clients such as Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Porsche. The remainder of sales were divided between the furniture and aircraft industries.

Wollsdorf Leder was the first leather producer to be awarded the ISO/TS 16949 certificate which combines the standards of the European and American automotive industries. The company claims that its focus on quality has allowed it to thrive during difficult market conditions. The scarcity of raw hides in Europe following BSE and then foot and mouth meant that price rises were inevitable. The company claimed it was in a good position to cope with this due to its concentration on the premium market.
