Italian leather exports soar 28% in first half 2001
Despite the problems being experienced in other parts of the manufacturing sector, Italy’s leather goods producers succeeded in boosting their export business by 28% in the first six months of this year.
But in releasing the positive figures the Italian statistics office Istat warned that the pace of growth is likely to be less vigorous in the second half of the year, owing to the continuing slowdown of the US economy and the appreciation of the Euro against the US dollar.
