Taiwan`s economics minister leaves for Vietnam
Taiwan’s minister for economic affairs, Lin Hsin-yi, is visiting Vietnam to join the eighth annual conference to promote trade and economic co-operation between the two countries. Lin was part of a delegation of ministry of economic affairs (MOEA) officials that included vice-minister Chen Ruey-long, and senior business leaders.
The minister will visit an industrial park in Hanoi that was developed by Taiwanese business groups. There will also be meetings scheduled with Taiwanese investors. Although there are no formal diplomatic ties with Vietnam, economic relations with the country have been growing steadily to the point where Taiwan now constitutes Vietnam's fourth biggest trading partner.
Trade between the two countries is in a wide range of goods. Taiwan exports leather, finished textile goods, footwear parts and processing machines to Vietnam while Vietnam exports raw materials, farm produce and semi-finished products to Taiwan. Total trade between the two countries amounted to $2.12 billion last year, according to MOEA officials.
