Fila second quarter operating results in line with 2000
Worldwide revenues for Fila Holding S.p.A. for the second quarter were E207.9 million ($186 million) - up 1.5 per cent from E204.9 million in the corresponding period of 2000. Operating loss was E14.6 million, which was on a par with E14.2 million for the second quarter of the previous year, and net loss was E31.2 million as against E19.3 million the previous year. E8.7 million of the E11.9 million increase in net loss was due to higher income taxes.
Net direct sales in the quarter in review totalled E198.6 million, which was a 1 per cent increase on E197.4 million in the corresponding period of 2000. Apparel sales reached E101.1 million - up 2 per cent on E99.1 million in the second quarter of 2000 - whilst footwear sales decreased by 1 per cent to E97.4 million. Sales in the USA amounted to E55.5 million during the quarter, up 5 per cent from E52.9 million, and European sales decreased by 13 per cent to E63.1 million. Sales in the rest of the world increased 11 per cent, due in the main to sales in Korea (+16%) and Latin America (+24%). Year to date, net direct sales are at approximately the same level as in 2000.
Gross profit for the second quarter was E78.2 million, compared to E83.5 million in the same period of 2000, and net loss was E31.2 million compared to E19.3 million in 2000.
