Primus shoe factory pays with…shoes
Primus, once Poland’s leading shoe manufacturer, is still struggling after cutting 80 of its workforce with another 83 to go. The firm, based in Prudnik in the south of the country, has been forced to pay part of its monthly wage bill in shoes.
The management blame the high cost of leather and falling sales for the difficulties. Trade union activists at Primus insist the factory can continue to produce shoes, and the city council has stepped in to help out with will guarantee banker’s credit of some 1 million zl for purchasing of materials.
