Nike launches Jordan convertible basketball shoe

06/08/2001

The Air Jordan Low XVI is a new "convertible" performance basketball shoe from Nike. With a quick flip of the collar, the shoe converts from a low cut to a mid cut style and is, says the company, the first ever of its kind. The shoe is designed to reflect urban style and popular culture whilst providing essential power and performance.

In the run-up to the shoe’s launch, the company commissioned barbers to come up with a new hairstyle inspired by the shoe. Two Jordan events – one in New York City and one in Philadelphia – were held very recently, were the public were offered free Convertible haircuts and styles whilst being entertained by Team Jordan athlete Derek Anderson and live performances from rap artists, DJs and local radio stations.
