Uzbekistan experiences strong growth in first six months

The President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, announced in the state press that the country’s GDP grew 4.2% year-on-year in the first half of this year. Results were positive in most sectors of the economy, with industrial production up 7.5%, agricultural production up 7.7% and investment 2.9% better than last year.

The figures were largely in line with the expected 4.5% growth forecast for the country’s GDP this year. Foreign trade grew by 3.3% and there was a trade surplus of $76.6 million for the period.
