Indonesia acts to protect disease-free status
Indonesia has widened its ban on imports from countries infected with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). A senior agriculture official from the government said that the ban was based on a report produced on July 6 by the OIE (Office International des Epizootioes, or the World Animal Health Organisation).
There are now bans on imports of meat and other animal products from Brazil, Argentina, Peru, France and Britain. Although the imports from the countries is very small, Indonesia is anxious not to import FMD which was eradicated in the country some 11 years ago.
