Australia and New Zealand continue ban on meat imports

30/07/2001

Following temporary bans on beef imports from 29 mainly western European countries, the Australia and New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA) has decided to extend the ban in 15 of the countries.

Those affected by the ban are Belgium, Britain, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

Any changes in the list will only occur through the presentation of evidence from the country concerned. However, the ban should not bother the countries affected too much as Australia imports only 3% of its beef products.
