Trout skin shoes to be launched

30/07/2001

Fishermen in Peru, South America, are using the skin of trout to produce leather. The workers had been using the fish skin to cover shoes as a means of increasing revenue, but things have stepped up a gear after a group of them won an entrepreneurship prize from the University of the Pacific. The fishermen are now going to launch an entire range of shoes onto the market using trout leather.

The producers are now looking for business partners to move the idea on to other products such as bags, wallets and watchstraps. The fishermen currently make the shoes themselves by hand to increase the profit from their catches.
