Brazil sets standards for leather and shoemaking machinery

30/07/2001

A quality seal has been launched in Brazil that will be awarded to machines and equipment for the leather, shoe and allied industries produced in Brazil by Brazilian manufacturers. The standards will apply for both sales in the domestic market and those for export.

The initiative was launched by ABRAMEQ, the Brazilian Association of Leather and Shoe Machinery and Equipment Manufacturers. The seal is claimed to be the first of its kind and is intended to give credibility to the Brazilian machinery sector.

Every product is evaluated on four criteria: 1. Technical Instruction Sheets and Manuals; 2. Wrapping, Transport and Carriage; 3. Safety and Ergonomics, and 4. Technical Specifications/Characteristics. The product is then awarded either a gold, silver or bronze certificate, which is valid for two years. A further evaluation is then required to renew the certificate.
