Turkmenistan trade surplus at $48 million in Jan-May
Trade turnover grew 34% year-on-year to $2.12 billion, with exports rising 17% to $1.84 billion and imports increasing by 60% to $1.36 billion.
Turkmenistan in the five months shipped 46% of exports to Ukraine, 17% to Italy, 13% to Iran, 6% to Russia, 5% to Turkey, 2% to Tajikistan, and 1% each to Britain, Switzerland and Kazakhstan.
The country shipped 15% of imports from Russia, 13% from the United States, 13% from Ukraine, 9% from Germany, 8% from Japan, 6% from the United Arab Emirates and 5% from Iran.
The country’s statistic office has also informed that gross domestic product grew 15% year-on- year in the first half of 2001, measuring 13.1 trillion manat.
If the gas sector is factored out, GDP growth measured 13%, the National Institute for Government Statistics and Information reported. GDP in the half broke down into 40% industry, 16% agriculture, 12% construction and 32% other sectors.
