Ukrainian visible trade surplus tops $420 million in Jan-May

Ukraine had a foreign trade surplus of $421 million in the first five months of this year, compared to a deficit of $535.6 million in the same period of 2000.
The trade turnover in the five months grew 11.2% to $12.595 billion, as exports rose 20.6% to $6.509 billion and imports edged up 2.6% to $6.087 billion, the State Statistics Committee reported.

Ukraine traded with 177 countries in the five months. The biggest export market was Russia, with 25.6% of total exports. Italy followed with 5.2%, Turkey with 4.6%, Germany with 4.3%, China with 3.9%, Poland with 3.4% and the United States with 3.3%.

Ukraine shipped 38.1% of imports from Russia, 11% from Turkmenistan, 8.2% from Germany, 4.6% from Kazakhstan, 3.1% from Belarus, 3.1% from the United States and 2.6% from Italy.
