Polish footwear factory gears up for production

A Polish-Norwegian joint venture, ‘Klawens Polska’, will start production of footwear in the city of Elblag (northern Poland) this November. The factory will specialise in the production of orthopaedic footwear and footwear for diabetics.

According to company’s acting manager Mrs. Dorota Przybyszewska, the factory will initially provide some 40 to 50 jobs, manufacturing exclusively for the Scandinavian export market. In the longer term, however, the company intends to break into the domestic market. "It will be rather difficult to sell our production domestically as, due to recession, some of our customers have ceased to exist," said Mrs. Przybyszewska.
