Brazil increases production of polyurethane for footwear
Three plants in Brazil are extending production of polyurethane substrates used for shoe production, which are currently 35% to 40% cheaper than leather. Citeco, held by Cipatex, produces 250,000 metres/month followed by Brasilplast with over 50,000 metres/month. Brasilplast expects to expand production to 125,000 metres by early 2002.
Together, Brazil's three plants can supply at least half of the local demand, estimated at between 600,000 and 800,000 million tons.
