A delegation of top Chinese businessmen is currently in Kenya to assess investment opportunities in several sectors. China's Vice Minister for Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation, Mr Sun Zhenyu, has announced special funds to support investment in Africa and Kenya is likely to benefit.

Kenya's minister for trade and industry, Mr Nicholas Biwott, said that the balance of trade between the two countries is heavily in China's favour. Kenya exports are mainly primary and semi-processed goods, including tea, tobacco, leather and leather products. Imports from China include manufactured goods, fabrics and textiles.

Projects on the table include the creation of a plant to manufacture televisions in Kenya while two Chinese companies have joined to create Hua'yang International (Kenya) Ltd, which will specialise in pesticide manufacture and distribution.
