The president of an Illinois manufacturing company has pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court to charges he defrauded the U.S. government while supplying leather dress gloves to the Department of Defense.

Robert Shmikler, president of Effingham-based Illinois Glove, was alleged to have instructed employees to deliberately mix defective dress gloves into shipments bound for Department of Defense facilities.

Shmikler pleaded guilty last week to two charges of making a false claim against the United States. Sentencing of Shmikler on behalf of his company is set for October 5 in the U.S. District Court in Benton. The company faces a maximum fine of $500,000 on each count.
