The West Indies cricketer, Clive Lloyd, CBE, has been awarded the annual Golden Glove Award by the Worshipful Company of Glovers of London.

The Master of the Livery, Jim Clarke, presented Clive Lloyd with his Golden Glove Award for his contribution to the sport of cricket. Lloyd, the most successful West Indies Captain and the only one to raise the Cricket World Cup in victory, 1975 and 1979, attended the Golden Glove Award Livery Luncheon at Tallow Chandler’s Hall where he gave a passionate speech on the importance of introducing youngsters to cricket.

He laid emphasis on youth being a nations most ‘valuable resource’ and concluded by saying ‘May I remind you that it is the energetic activity of a relatively small band of West Indian Test Cricketers who were successful in keeping alive the promise of a West Indian federation and has given the world a solid definition of Caribbean national characteristics.'

The Liverymen praised Lloyd for being one of the world’s greatest batsmen, averaging over fifty runs throughout his test career, captaining his country and chosen county, Lancashire and for his enormous success as Manager of the West Indies Cricket Team. Lloyd expressed his delight and honour to receive the award.
