Send it on a fumigated pallet

09/07/2001

As of March this year, a new regulation came into force in Italy (so far not yet strictly enforced) requiring that all imports of goods packed on pallets, must be accompanied by a document declaring that the pallet if made from pine has been properly fumigated, and, if not made of pine, what sort of wood it is and where it came from.

The document must be issued prior to the shipment date. Given the ability of customs to hold up shipments, it is worth doing properly. So far, the documentation requirement seems to be aimed at North America as well as Japan and China.
