Poland lifts foot and mouth import ban on selected countries

02/07/2001

Poland’s Chief Veterinarian has delisted a number of countries from it import ban, aimed at keeping Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) out of the country.

As of June 17, imports of meat, meat products and live animals were allowed to resume from those countries that were deemed to no longer pose a risk namely Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the Czech republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Though the Czech Republic was also delisted from the FMD ban, Poland will continue to refuse entry to meat and live animals of Czech origin following recent confirmation of the country’s first case of BSE.
