Russian livestock figures down in 2001

Figures newly-released by Goskomstat, Russia’s State Statistics Committee, show that as of May 1 2001, the country had 30 million head of cattle – down 3.1% on the same time last year. At 13 million, the country’s cow population was down by 3.7%. The country’s pig population was down by a massive 12.2% to 16 million while sheep and goats levels remained stable at around 17.8 million (down by 0.8%).
