Russian hide prices stabilise in wake of duty increases

After massive protests by leather and footwear manufacturers a special commission established by the Russian government decided to increase the export duty on raw hides and skins from existing its existing level 210 Euros per tonne ($180) to 500 Euros ($420).
Since the announcement, the price of raw hides has already begun to decline, while the price of pigskins is expected to remain at current levels due to good demand from both domestic and foreign buyers.
