New President for British Glove Association

02/07/2001

Lt. Col. Roderick Morriss has been elected President of the British Glove Association, after being nominated by the Master of the Glovers and past President, Michael Down.

Morriss was admitted to the Livery of the Worshipful Company of Glovers of London in 1995. He has enjoyed the last four years as Secretary to the Glovers’ Publicity Committee before being appointed (Autumn 2000) to the Company’s Court of Assistance.

He recently retired as Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Artillery Regiment and has spent the last ten years as executive Secretary of the International Ship Managers Association. He is currently President of the St John Ambulance and British Legion of Hackney and is Deputy Lieutenant of that Borough.

Commenting on his new role, Lt Col. Morriss says: ‘I am honoured to be elected as the President/Director of the BGA. The Association has a vital role to play in promoting its members’ interests and obtaining the true recognition that the glove manufacturers, suppliers and retailers warrant. I intend to ensure that I play a full part in this task.’

The British Glove Association (BGA) was formed in 1998 as a result of a convergence of two trade associations – the Glove Guild of Great Britain and the National Association of Glove Manufacturers (NAGM) – to represent every area of the glove industry as a single voice.
