First it was television, women’s education and secular music. Now, leather jackets have been outlawed by Afghanistan’s hard-line Taliban leadership for being ‘Alien to Islam’.

More bizarrely, the Taliban has also recently banned ‘The Titanic’: the hairstyle sported by the actor Leonardo Di Caprio in the film of the same name and which had become especially fashionable with the country’s young male population.
