Trouble afoot

Sportswear manufacturer Sergio Tacchini and tennis star Martina Hingis are at loggerheads over alleged damage to the player’s feet. Hingis is suing the Italian company for $42 million, claiming that Sergio Tacchini’s shoes have caused chronic injuries to her feet, forcing her to miss major tournaments.

Hingis signed a five-year, $5.5 million sponsorship deal with the company in 1996, however Sergio Tacchini withdrew the arrangement after three years claiming that Hingis continually breached her contractual obligations by not wearing its shoes. Hingis, who says the shoes have caused pain and injury to her feet, is now suing for negligence and breach of contract.
