Leather as art – Roadshow tours Italian leathermaking region
A visual arts display describing the historical relationship between art and leather is currently touring the Valdarno Inferiore leathermaking region of Italy
Subtitled ‘On the Track of a Harlequin’s Mask’, ‘Art and Leather’ features the works of such well-known local artists as Amleto and Donato Sartori. The creations of artists from the neighbouring boroughs of Castelfranco, Santa Croce, San Miniato, Montopoli and Santa Maria a Monte are also being shown at other public venues. Most of the displays are said to be themed on the dramatic leather masks used in classical theatre.
